CAR PREP RULES:
1. General Rules:
– If a specific action is not mentioned in the rules, it is not allowed.
– Exceptions: American-made cars, excluding full-size cars with a wheelbase of at least 113 inches or more, 4x4s, Imperials, ambulances, hearses, trucks, limousines, suicide Lincolns, and 03’s and up.
2. Frame Rules:
– No fresh paint or undercoating on the frame.
– No buffing or grinding frames or bodies, except where explicitly allowed in the rules.
– All cars must be stock unless modifications are stated in the rules.
3. Glass, Plastic, and Interior:
– Remove all glass, plastic, chrome, and interior before arriving at the derby.
– Remove trailer hitches and braces.
4. Identification:
– Display a bright-colored number on each front door.
– Roof sign with your number for car recognition.
5. Battery Placement:
– Move batteries to the passenger front floorboard.
– Secure and cover batteries properly.
6. Brakes:
– All cars must have working brakes.
– No pinion brakes allowed.
7. Welding Rules:
– No welding other than what is explicitly allowed.
– Any unauthorized welds found during inspection must be fixed to the inspector’s satisfaction.
BODY RULES:
1. Glass and Debris Removal:
– Remove all glass, mirrors, plastic, and decking in wagons.
– Cars must be clean of debris before entering the derby.
2. Body Modification:
– No sedagons (fresh or pre-ran), crease enhancement, sheet metal shaping, or frame folding.
– Deck lids must be in stock location.
3. Hood and Door Rules:
– Hoods get one hood clip with specific dimensions.
– Welding doors is allowed within specified limits.
4. Body Mounts:
– Body mounts and spacers must remain stock.
– Broken or rusted-out mounts may be substituted with a single piece of 9 wire.
5. Windshield Reinforcement:
– Front windshield must have 9 wire, chain, or bar.
FRAMES:
1. Welding and Suspension:
– No welding on frames allowed.
– No pre-bending on fresh cars.
– No bolting, welding, or chaining A-arms.
2. Suspension Modification:
– No suspension modifications allowed; must remain strictly stock.
– Limited use of spring spacers per side is allowed.
TIRES/WHEELS:
1. Tire Rules:
– Tires no bigger than 16 inches.
– No split rims, studded tires, or foam-filled tires.
2. Wheel Rules:
– Small wheel center only; no beadlocks or full wheel centers.
DRIVETRAIN:
1. Engine Rules:
– Use 1/2-inch thick lower cradle with specific requirements.
– No tranny protectors; stock mounts only.
2. Rearend Rules:
– Rearend swaps allowed with limitations.
– Use 2 strands of 9 wire from rearend to frame.
3. Other Drivetrain Rules:
– Floor shifters, gas/brake pedals, and headers allowed.
– No fuel cradles, protectors, or aftermarket parts of this nature.
DRIVER’S COMPARTMENT:
1. Cage Rules:
– 4-point square cage with specific dimensions.
– Gas tank protector allowed within specified limits.
2. Driver’s Door:
– Driver’s door must be padded.
3. Other Rules:
– Gas tank and battery relocation required.
– Trans coolers allowed within the cage area.
BUMPERS:
1. Bumper Rules:
– Welding on OEM stock bumpers allowed.
– Shocks can be collapsed and welded.
2. Bracket Rules:
– Bumper brackets and shocks must be in stock location.
– Options for collapsed shocks or chaining the bumper.
PRE-RANS:
– Two 4x4x1/4 plates per side allowed where visibly bent (must show visible bend).
– Remove plates if not visibly bent.
